Emmalee's Reflection

My project is about saving endangered animals. I grew up in the country and there were tons of trees behind my house. Since there were lots of trees behind my house, animals lived there. That’s why I did a project on saving endangered animals. My project can change the world. I learned what kinds of animals were endangered and how to save the endangered animals from going extinct. I also learned 10 ways to save endangered animals and plants. I learned how to make a book and what words mean. I learned how to save pictures onto an iPad. I learned a lot of things during my Genius Hour project. I feel pretty good about my project. I love Genius Hour. Every Tuesday, I would get excited because Genius Hour was on Tuesdays. I love my project. I hope tons of parents love my project as much as I do!

Laura-Ashleigh's Reflection

I have a lot of fun playing soccer.  I wanted to make a mini soccer game that would be fun to play.  I created my little game with a cardboard box and some paper people.  I think this game is going to be fun for people to play in pairs or by them selves.  They can kick the soccer ball and try to score a goal.   I had a lot of fun with Genius Hour.

GENIUS HOUR

WOW!  What a ride this project was.   I learned about Genius Hour at NCTIES and was very excited to start it with my class when I returned from the conference.   We are constantly telling our kids what they need to learn and they have very little choice in what they are learning.  This project is all them, they came up with their passion project.  We did several weeks of brainstorming and developing driving questions.  Once the students had their driving question they were off to do some research.   My students worked at their own pace and decided how much effort to put into the project. After the research portion of the project, the students how to chose how to present their information. Each student decided what they wanted to do.  Some explored iMovie and made incredible videos. Others wanted to dive into Google Slides and make a presentation.   We even had some Bare books created that will be in the library for the check-out rotation. ...
